Didn’t get much long hiking in this weekend, but did enjoy a nice camping trip at lake Waramaug.

There are 13 flights of beautifully clean stairs in the Bliss building at Hartford Hospital. I can usually do them in about 5 mins, bottom to top and down again.

My family of five is on a quest – or, rather, my wife and I are and the kids don’t know it yet. We are a hiking family; usually fitting in one or two a week. They range in mileage and increase as time goes by. You see, my wife is a cancer survivor and an avid fan of the trail.

Our dream is to hike Mt. Washington together, bottom to top and then down again.

In order to get to that goal (the highest point in New England), we are working on a series of smaller goals. Which got me thinking – why stick to trails? To mountains or hills? To anything? I hope to compile a database of peaks around the nation, some day. There doesn’t seem to be a collected source of information on that subject. Sure backpacker.com and other places have lists. But now how I want it, and in an open format.

Want to know the highest point in your county, state, town? Highest trail? Highest climbing route? Hell, want to know the highest (legal) point you can climb in a building in your respective city? I think that information should be available.

So before I had a website going – I figured the first step was to start logging how well our trail experience is coming along, and how many “little peaks” turn into large family conquests and pages in the scrapbook.

All of those things are wonderful things that I feel blessed to be able to enjoy with my family. You should too.
